United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on the ways forward and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for follow-ups to major UN conferences and summits.

The UN Charter established the ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main UN organs. DAWN has consultative status in the ECOSOC alongside numerous civil society organisations across the globe, and engages in multilateral processes in this space in various ways. You can learn more about these activities in this section of the website.
