Flora Partenio, Corina Rodríguez Enríquez and Alejandra Scampini (DAWN) participated in the week of May 15th to19th in a series of strategy meetings and capacity building workshops related to the organization of civil society and social movement’s resistance in the face of the upcoming Leader´s Summit of G20, which will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, next November.
The process departs from the experience of the Global Week Of Action Against the World Trade Organization (WTO) that took place in Argentina in December 2017. Back then, the Feminist Forum and the Feminist Assembly decided as a collective to continue the mobilizations and the organizing against corporate power and free trade agreements. The 8th March and the World Social Forum (WSF) in Bahia, Brazil, provided two further moments for the group to continue advancing on local, national and regional organizing against the advance of raising corporate power. At the WSF DAWN organized a panel on G20 and collectively decided to launch the Feminists Forum in the face of G20.
The recent meetings in Argentina were key not only for local groups but also for regional movements such as trade unions, labour movements, education movements, environmental activists and organisations, groups against free trade, and many others that are actively participating from their experience or work analysing the impact of trade agreements on livelihoods and the planet.
Feminists and women´s organizations are part of this global resistance but are also doing their own plans and strategies. Amongst the groups involved are feminist organizations like Articulación de Mulheres Brasileiras, Articulación MARCOSUR, SOS CORPO (Brazil), Gender and Trade Network, CIEDUR (Uruguay) and Espacio de economía feminista de la SEC, Cátedra Libre Virginia Bolten (Argentina), Not one Less (Ni Una MENOS, Argentina); migrant movement, trans, piqueteras, LGBT, women for the trade unions, etc.
DAWN is part of a global platform of alliances that have been working against free trade since Seattle in the 1990s and affirmed its will to collaborate with this mixed movements alliances and engage in different actions, including in the educational processes about what is the G20 and what is at stake for the people and the planet.
In that sense, Flora Partenio and Corina Rodríguez prepared a brief training on the macroeconomic implications of the agenda of G20 and how it affects women, which proved to be a valuable space for many groups to make connections between that agenda and their local realities.
This work will be done parallel and in conjunction with the Feminist Forum preparations that include mobilizing, organizing and capacity building. DAWN work and analysis is welcomed by the groups at local, national and regional level.
The meeting on 19th closed with an affirmation that groups want visibility and massive presence in Argentina during the Summit, and a recognition of the need to have a roadmap of capacity building events around the issues of G20. In that regards, the upcoming issue of the DAWN Informs will be very important in this process.
Rumbo al Foro Feminista Frente al G20

Flora Partenio, Corina Rodríguez Enríquez y Alejandra Scampini (DAWN) participaron en la semana del 15 al 19 de mayo en una serie de reuniones estratégicas y talleres de desarrollo de capacidades relacionados con la organización de la resistencia ciudadana y de movimientos sociales frente a la próxima Cumbre del G20, que tendrá lugar en Buenos Aires, Argentina, el próximo mes noviembre.
El proceso parte de la experiencia vivida en la Semana de Acción Global contra la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC) que tuvo lugar en Argentina en diciembre de 2017. En aquel entonces, el Foro Feminista y la Asamblea Feminista decidieron como colectivo continuar las movilizaciones y la organización contra el poder corporativo y los acuerdos de libre comercio. El 8 de marzo y el Foro Social Mundial (FSM) en Bahía, Brasil, proporcionaron dos momentos más para continuar avanzando en la organización local, nacional y regional contra el aumento del poder corporativo. En el FSM, DAWN organizó un panel sobre el G20 y colectivamente decidió lanzar el Foro Feminista frente al G20.
Las recientes reuniones en Argentina fueron clave no solo para grupos locales, sino también para movimientos regionales como sindicatos, movimientos laborales, movimientos educativos, activistas y organizaciones ambientales, grupos contra el libre comercio y muchos otros.
Las feministas y las organizaciones de mujeres son parte de esta resistencia global, pero también están construyendo sus propios planes y estrategias. Entre los grupos involucrados se encuentran organizaciones feministas como Articulación de Mulheres Brasileiras, Articulación MARCOSUR, SOS CORPO (Brasil), Red de Género y Comercio, CIEDUR (Uruguay) y Espacio de economía feminista de la SEC, Cátedra Libre Virginia Bolten (Argentina), ninguna Less (Ni Una MENOS, Argentina); movimiento migratorio, trans, piqueteras, LGBT, mujeres para los sindicatos, etc.
DAWN es parte de una plataforma global de alianzas que ha estado trabajando contra el libre comercio desde Seattle en la década de 1990 y afirmó su voluntad de colaborar con estas alianzas de movimientos mixtos y participar en diferentes acciones, incluso en los procesos educativos sobre qué es el G20 y qué está en juego para la gente y el planeta.
En ese sentido, Flora Partenio y Corina Rodríguez prepararon una breve capacitación sobre las implicaciones macroeconómicas de la agenda del G20 y cómo afecta a las mujeres, que resultó ser un espacio valioso para que muchos grupos establezcan conexiones entre esa agenda y sus realidades locales.
Este trabajo se realizará en paralelo y en conjunto con los preparativos del Foro Feminista que incluyen la movilización, la organización y la creación de capacidades. El trabajo y análisis DAWN es bienvenido por los grupos a nivel local, nacional y regional.
La reunión del día 19 cerró con una afirmación de los grupos de lograr visibilidad y presencia masiva en Argentina durante la Cumbre, y un reconocimiento de la necesidad de tener una serie de eventos de capacitación en torno a los temas del G20. En ese sentido, el próximo número de DAWN Informs será muy importante en este proceso.
