Statement: Sudanese authorities must stop killing peaceful protesters

42 global, regional and national networks called Sudanese authorities to respect, protect and fulfill people’s rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression. Approximately 40 protesters were shot dead and dozens were injured in Sudan at the end of December, in one week of demonstrations to protest against economic and social conditions, social injustices and widespread corruption.

Sudanese authorities should immediately stop killing peaceful protesters and release those arbitrarily detained. They must conduct immediate and impartial investigations for all cases of killings of protesters to end impunity for perpetrators.
