Condenamos el asesinato de la feminista Marielle Franco en Brasil
DAWN expresa su repudio frente al asesinato de Marielle Franco, feminista negra, consejala de Río de Janeiro, que había denunciado los atropellos y represión policial en las favelas de Río ante el creciente proceso de militarización. ¡Exigimos verdad y justicia!
Marielle Franco, socióloga de 38 años, consejala de Rio de Janeiro y activista de los derechos de las mujeres afrodescendientes y de las poblaciones marginadas de su territorio, fue asesinada ayer en la noche mientras regresaba de una actividad de apoyo a las mujeres negras brasileñas.
Marielle, quien fue la quinta concejala más votada de Río de Janeiro en las elecciones de 2016, se había opuesto a la militarización de la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro, decretada hace un mes por el presidente de facto Michel Temer. Había usado las redes sociales para denunciar que la policía estaba reprimiendo y violando los derechos de la poblacion de las favelas y había sido nombrada en una comisión de la Cámara de Consejales de Rio para vigilar la actuacion de las tropas militares en la ciudad.
Su homicidio se suma a la dolorosa lista de mujeres defensoras de derechos humanos y de la naturaleza que están siendo asesinadas por el sistema capitalista y patriarcal, que intenta manterse a base de violencia.
Nuestra red se une a las voces que exigen una investigación genuina por parte de las autoridades de brasileñas y que se haga justicia ejemplar.

We condemn the murder of feminist Marielle Franco in Brazil
DAWN expresses condemnation against the assassination of the black feminist Marielle Franco, councilor from Rio de Janeiro, who had denounced police brutality in the favelas of Rio in the face of the growing militarization of the city. We demand truth and justice!
Marielle Franco, a 38-year-old sociologist, elected officer of Rio de Janeiro and advocate of the rights of Afro-descendant women and marginalized populations, was murdered yesterday while returning from a activity in support of Brazilian black women.
Marielle, who was the fifth most voted councilwoman in the 2016 elections, had opposed the militarization of the city of Rio de Janeiro, decreed a month ago by de facto president Michel Temer. She had used social networks to denounce police repression and violation of rights against the people of the favelas (marginalized neighbourhoods). Two weeks prior, she had been appointed to a commission of the Chamber of Councilors of Rio to monitor the performance of military troops in the city.
Her murder adds to the painful list of women human rights defenders who are murdered by the capitalist and patriarchal system, which tries to maintain itself using violence.
