The DAWN Training Institute (DTI) is a space for feminist education, where experienced DAWN members engage with younger feminists from the Global South and share their accumulated knowledge, analysis, debates, and activism. It serves as a platform for movement-building and intergenerational exchange. The DTI is also a means of organisational renewal, as many DTI graduates continue to contribute to DAWN’s global and regional work.
Since 2003, DAWN has held six DTIs: in Bangalore, India (2003); Montevideo, Uruguay (2005); Cape Town, South Africa (2007); Siem Reap, Cambodia (2011); Negombo, Sri Lanka (2016), and Bali, Indonesia (2023). Each DTI runs for two to three weeks, during which young feminist participants engage intensively with feminist theory, movement history, and local-to-global strategies for advancing gender, economic, and social justice. The DTI reflects DAWN’s commitment to intergenerational learning and to building a sustainable, Southern-led feminist movement rooted in critical analysis and collective action.
