Markers on the Way: The DAWN Debates on Alternative Development

This publication, Markers on the Way: The DAWN Debate on Alternative Development, represents DAWN’s contribution to the debates and discussions on economic issues for the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in September 1995.

It was produced through a process of consultation directed by Gita Sen, DAWN’s Research Coordinator for this project. Over two years these consultations took place through a series of Regional Workshops held in the Pacific, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean. Comments on the text of this document were provided by Peggy Antrobus (Barbados), Srilatha Batliwala (India), Sonia Correa (Brazil), Joan French (Jamaica), Hameeda Hossain (Bangladesh), Devaki Jain (India) and Viviene Taylor (South Africa).
