Maureen Penjueli

Bio

Maureen Penjueli is from Rotuma, Fiji. She studied Environmental Science at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and has dedicated nearly three decades to working in civil society organisations in the Pacific. From 2008 to 2024, she served as Coordinator of the Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG), where she played a pivotal role in shaping the organisation into a leading regional voice on development justice, trade, and resource governance. Her activism lies at the intersection of science, policy, and the rights of indigenous peoples, with a strong commitment to advancing gender, economic, and ecological justice. Over the past decade, Maureen has worked closely with DAWN, contributing to the Political Ecology and Sustainability (PEAS) programme, particularly the Blue Economy initiative and advocacy against Deep Sea Mining.
